EXCELLENT Based on 292 reviews Posted on Karen SteeleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience with dog trainer Brendan! He's very knowledgeable on training! Firm yet gentle with commands. He really made me feel like he genuinely loved my dog and wants him to be the best version of his dog-self! Well worth the money, but understand that homework (practice) needs to be done for 100% success! And I love that part of our last class we spent learning a few fun tricks...rollover & sit pretty! Thanks so much Brendan & K9s!Posted on Emily BeaneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Super friendly and professional!Posted on StephanieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. K9s Place completely changed our lives in just 5 days. My 3-year-old mini schnauzer is adorable, but he was very reactive toward people and other dogs, which made walks stressful. I used to dread taking him out and would cross the street anytime I saw another person walking their dog. Now he is well behaved around people and so much better around other dogs. Walks are now enjoyable and I feel so much more relaxed and confident with him. The trainers were patient and knowledgeable. I highly recommend K9s Place to anyone dealing with reactivity or behavior issues. Thank you guys!Posted on Leah CaruthersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I took our 7-month-old puppy, Otis, to this facility for their five-day board and train as well as utilizing their “Spaw” services. To say we are impressed is an understatement. Otis is a very happy puppy and wants to greet absolutely everyone (people and other animals alike) when outside to either walk or use the bathroom. We love that he is so friendly but we were worried sick that one day he might approach an animal or person that may not be so friendly or forgiving. Five days after his program, we are happy to report that he has calmed down significantly when in public and listens to us much better than he used to. His trainer worked with him on everything we asked, even using his own vehicle to help Otis practice getting in and out of the car safely. After his training, we took him to their “Spaw” for grooming and were equally impressed with this service. His fur is the softest it’s ever felt although he usually is very nervous after getting groomed, he showed no signs of anxiety when we picked him up. We are so lucky to have found this facility and trust all the staff with Otis completely. We can’t wait to continue to bring our sweet boy here. Thank you K9’s Place!Posted on Rosan GonzalezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found this place online, and I don't regret taking my Cane Corso to obedience classes for a week. My baby is a completely different dog after those classes. He follows simple commands, I can take him to public places to continue his socialization, and he does an incredible job. This is all thanks to the trainers at K9 Place. Thanks, guys, for the excellent work!Posted on AstaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. K9 Place in Melbourne, FL is hands down the best place in the area. I have a senior diabetic dog with Cushing’s, and it was very hard to find someone willing to help. I called in many vet, dog daycare and boarding places and even called a clinic in Orlando, and they refused to take him. K9 Place was completely different — they were kind, flexible, professional, and truly cared about my dog. They worked with my drop-off and pick-up times, and I could tell right away that they love animals and understand what pet owners go through. If you want a place that is caring, reliable, and puts dogs first, K9 Place is the one. I’m very grateful for them and highly recommend them to anyone in the area.Posted on Clay PilkingtonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My dog is 8.5 years old, and was extremely reactive toward other dogs to the point where I couldn’t take him anywhere and only on short, stressful walks hoping we wouldn’t come across any other dogs. After 2 weeks board and train, now we are going on pack walks and bonding more than ever, training was worth it!! Very thankful for K9’s placePosted on Cynthia JacksonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My dog is now a pleasure to walk. This place is incredible!Posted on Dana PomerantzTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Going to try out the Board and Train with the newest rescue member of our family, 9 month old Phoenix (Feny) a Grate Dane/Lab mix. She was already learning before we even left the evaluation. Feny was comfortable with the surroundings the entire time we were there. Looking forward to great training!Posted on Mike HoranTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had the pleasure of bringing my dog Andy to K9 place for a two week board and train. My dog had problems with walking with the leash and he would pull me. He also was not real good around other people and other dogs. After 2 weeks with all the great trainers and staff he is like another dog. I would highly recommend this great place.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Decoding Your Dog’s Reactivity
Reactive behavior is not just about aggression. It often stems from fear, frustration, or past negative experiences. If your dog displays leash reactivity—barking excessively, lunging toward triggers, or struggling to focus on you—it can be overwhelming. Left unaddressed, these behaviors can escalate, making walks stressful and reducing your dog’s quality of life.
Common causes of reactivity include:
- Fear or Anxiety: Some dogs react negatively due to past trauma, lack of socialization, or uncertainty about new situations.
- Overexcitement or Frustration: Dogs who want to interact with other dogs or people but are restricted by the leash may exhibit reactive behaviors.
- Protectiveness: Some dogs feel the need to guard their owners and react aggressively toward perceived threats.
- Lack of Training: Dogs may develop poor leash habits that reinforce reactive responses without proper guidance.
Why Early Intervention is Key to Managing Dog Reactivity
Ignoring leash aggression or reactivity can worsen behavior, increase stress for you and your dog, and even lead to potential safety risks. Proper training can help your dog develop trust, confidence, and impulse control, making daily walks and social interactions more enjoyable.
Unlock Your Dog’s Potential with K9s Place Training
At K9s Place, we use science-backed training methods to modify reactive behavior and help your dog feel more secure. Our approach focuses on positive reinforcement, structured guidance, and behavior modification tailored to your dog’s individual needs.
Answers to Common Questions About Reactive Dog Training:
- How long does reactive dog training take? The length of training depends on your dog’s individual needs and progress. Many dogs show improvement within a few weeks, but more significant changes may take a few months of consistent training.
- Will my dog ever be completely ‘cured’ of reactivity? While most dogs can significantly or completely reduce their reactive behavior, others may always show some level of reactivity. The goal is to improve their response, reduce anxiety, and help you manage situations calmly.
- Can older dogs be trained out of reactivity? Yes, older dogs can absolutely benefit from training. Dogs of all ages can improve with the right approach. Patience and consistency are key!
Comprehensive Behavior Assessment
Before starting training, we thoroughly evaluate your dog’s reactivity triggers, body language, and current responses. Understanding your dog’s unique challenges allows us to create a training plan that will set you both up for success.
Personalized Training Programs
No two dogs are the same, which is why we develop customized training plans tailored to your dog’s specific reactivity issues. Whether your dog struggles with people, other dogs, or environmental triggers, our training addresses the root cause and promotes long-term improvement.
Leash Handling & Desensitization
Proper leash control and desensitization exercises teach your dog to stay focused and calm in challenging situations. Our methods help your dog learn to disengage from triggers and respond to your cues instead of reacting impulsively.

Many reactive dogs struggle with confidence. We incorporate confidence-building exercises and controlled socialization to help them feel more comfortable in different environments, reducing stress and fear-based reactions.

Consistency is Key: The Secret to Effective Dog Training
Training a reactive dog requires time, patience, and consistency. Here are key factors that contribute to long-term success:
- Routine & Structure: Dogs thrive on consistency. Regular training sessions, predictable routines, and clear expectations help reduce anxiety and build confidence.
- Controlled Exposure: Gradually introducing your dog to triggers in a controlled environment prevents overwhelming situations and fosters positive associations.
- Clear Communication: Using consistent commands, body language, and cues helps your dog understand expectations and respond appropriately.
- Owner Involvement: Training is only effective when owners actively reinforce training. Reinforcing training outside of sessions strengthens the bond between you and your dog.
Training Techniques that Work: Managing Reactivity in Dogs
At K9s Place, we understand that managing a reactive dog requires a blend of patience, expertise, and the right approach. Our training program incorporates various tools and techniques designed to help your dog learn to respond more calmly to triggers. By addressing the root causes of reactivity and building positive associations, we guide your dog toward lasting behavioral change. Below are some of the key strategies we use to manage reactivity and encourage a balanced, well-behaved dog:
- Desensitization & Counter-Conditioning: Gradually exposing your dog to triggers at a safe distance while rewarding calm behavior helps change their response over time.
- Focus & Engagement Exercises: Teaching your dog to maintain focus on you in distracting environments reduces reactivity and improves overall obedience.
- Threshold Management: Recognizing early signs of stress and avoiding over-threshold situations prevent reactive episodes and build confidence.
