EXCELLENT Based on 292 reviews Posted on Karen SteeleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience with dog trainer Brendan! He's very knowledgeable on training! Firm yet gentle with commands. He really made me feel like he genuinely loved my dog and wants him to be the best version of his dog-self! Well worth the money, but understand that homework (practice) needs to be done for 100% success! And I love that part of our last class we spent learning a few fun tricks...rollover & sit pretty! Thanks so much Brendan & K9s!Posted on Emily BeaneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Super friendly and professional!Posted on StephanieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. K9s Place completely changed our lives in just 5 days. My 3-year-old mini schnauzer is adorable, but he was very reactive toward people and other dogs, which made walks stressful. I used to dread taking him out and would cross the street anytime I saw another person walking their dog. Now he is well behaved around people and so much better around other dogs. Walks are now enjoyable and I feel so much more relaxed and confident with him. The trainers were patient and knowledgeable. I highly recommend K9s Place to anyone dealing with reactivity or behavior issues. Thank you guys!Posted on Leah CaruthersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I took our 7-month-old puppy, Otis, to this facility for their five-day board and train as well as utilizing their “Spaw” services. To say we are impressed is an understatement. Otis is a very happy puppy and wants to greet absolutely everyone (people and other animals alike) when outside to either walk or use the bathroom. We love that he is so friendly but we were worried sick that one day he might approach an animal or person that may not be so friendly or forgiving. Five days after his program, we are happy to report that he has calmed down significantly when in public and listens to us much better than he used to. His trainer worked with him on everything we asked, even using his own vehicle to help Otis practice getting in and out of the car safely. After his training, we took him to their “Spaw” for grooming and were equally impressed with this service. His fur is the softest it’s ever felt although he usually is very nervous after getting groomed, he showed no signs of anxiety when we picked him up. We are so lucky to have found this facility and trust all the staff with Otis completely. We can’t wait to continue to bring our sweet boy here. Thank you K9’s Place!Posted on Rosan GonzalezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I found this place online, and I don't regret taking my Cane Corso to obedience classes for a week. My baby is a completely different dog after those classes. He follows simple commands, I can take him to public places to continue his socialization, and he does an incredible job. This is all thanks to the trainers at K9 Place. Thanks, guys, for the excellent work!Posted on AstaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. K9 Place in Melbourne, FL is hands down the best place in the area. I have a senior diabetic dog with Cushing’s, and it was very hard to find someone willing to help. I called in many vet, dog daycare and boarding places and even called a clinic in Orlando, and they refused to take him. K9 Place was completely different — they were kind, flexible, professional, and truly cared about my dog. They worked with my drop-off and pick-up times, and I could tell right away that they love animals and understand what pet owners go through. If you want a place that is caring, reliable, and puts dogs first, K9 Place is the one. I’m very grateful for them and highly recommend them to anyone in the area.Posted on Clay PilkingtonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My dog is 8.5 years old, and was extremely reactive toward other dogs to the point where I couldn’t take him anywhere and only on short, stressful walks hoping we wouldn’t come across any other dogs. After 2 weeks board and train, now we are going on pack walks and bonding more than ever, training was worth it!! Very thankful for K9’s placePosted on Cynthia JacksonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My dog is now a pleasure to walk. This place is incredible!Posted on Dana PomerantzTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Going to try out the Board and Train with the newest rescue member of our family, 9 month old Phoenix (Feny) a Grate Dane/Lab mix. She was already learning before we even left the evaluation. Feny was comfortable with the surroundings the entire time we were there. Looking forward to great training!Posted on Mike HoranTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had the pleasure of bringing my dog Andy to K9 place for a two week board and train. My dog had problems with walking with the leash and he would pull me. He also was not real good around other people and other dogs. After 2 weeks with all the great trainers and staff he is like another dog. I would highly recommend this great place.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Managing Aggression Creates a Safer, Calmer Home
Working with K9s Place to manage genetic and learned aggression offers multiple advantages for both dogs and their owners:
- Safer Interactions with People
- Proper training reduces the risk of aggressive incidents during walks, visits from friends, or interactions with strangers. Your dog learns to respond calmly, helping you feel confident when guests arrive or when out in public.
- Safer Interactions with Other Dogs
- Aggressive behaviors toward other dogs can be unpredictable and stressful. Training helps your dog remain composed during encounters with other pets, making walks and social outings safer and more enjoyable.
- Improved Behavior at Home
- Aggression can disrupt daily routines, cause tension, and create an anxious environment. Addressing aggression ensures your dog can relax in familiar spaces, reducing growling, snapping, or resource guarding.
- Reduced Stress for Both Dog and Owner
- Aggression creates ongoing worry and tension. Structured training and behavior management help dogs feel more secure, while owners experience less anxiety about potential incidents.
- Enhanced Confidence in Owners
- Many owners feel unsure about how to handle aggressive behaviors. Our trainers provide practical strategies and hands-on guidance, empowering you to respond effectively and safely.
- Long-Term Behavior Improvement
- Consistent, tailored training not only addresses current aggressive behaviors but also prevents escalation in the future. Dogs learn appropriate ways to respond to triggers, creating lasting positive change.
- Strengthened Dog-Owner Relationship
- Aggression can erode trust between dogs and their owners. By learning to manage and redirect aggressive tendencies, your dog gains confidence, you gain trust in their responses, and your bond becomes stronger and more harmonious.
Genetics and Experiences Shape Your Dog’s Reactions
Aggression can manifest in many forms, from growling and snapping to lunging and biting. It can occur toward strangers, family members, other dogs, or even inanimate triggers like doorbells or new objects. Determining whether aggression is genetic or learned is critical because the approach to managing each type differs.
Genetic aggression refers to inherent traits passed down through breeding or natural instincts. Some dogs are naturally more protective, dominant, or territorial. These tendencies do not mean your dog is “bad,” but they do require structured management to prevent unsafe behaviors.
Learned aggression develops from experiences and environmental factors. Dogs may learn to respond aggressively after being threatened, startled, or reinforced for aggressive behavior. This type of aggression can be unlearned with proper training, consistency, and management.
Without understanding the root cause, owners may apply the wrong strategies, which can unintentionally escalate aggression and compromise safety. Let us guide you through training that strengthens your bond and reduces stress at home.
Aggression Can Create Anxiety for Dogs and Owners
Many Brevard County dog owners face similar challenges when dealing with aggressive behavior:
- Struggling to identify the cause
- You may notice growling, snapping, or barking and wonder whether it’s a genetic trait or a learned response. Misidentifying the type can lead to ineffective or counterproductive approaches.
- Worrying about safety
- Aggression creates risks for family members, other pets, and the general public. Owners often feel anxious during walks, vet visits, or when visitors arrive.
- Confusion from conflicting advice
- Online sources, friends, and even other trainers may offer contradictory advice, leaving owners unsure which approach will actually help.
- Uncertainty about which training works
- Without guidance, it’s easy to waste time and energy on methods that don’t address the underlying cause of aggression.
- Without guidance, it’s easy to waste time and energy on methods that don’t address the underlying cause of aggression.
K9s Place helps owners overcome these challenges by providing clear guidance and individualized training plans tailored to the type of aggression your dog exhibits.
Spotting Inherited Traits That Influence Your Dog’s Behavior
Genetic aggression is rooted in a dog’s natural temperament or instincts. Dogs with inherited aggressive tendencies may display the following:
- High levels of territorial behavior or resource guarding
- Protective instincts that manifest as barking, growling, or lunging toward strangers
- Dominance tendencies in interactions with other dogs or family members
Dogs with genetic aggression require structured training, controlled exposure to triggers, and guidance from experienced trainers. The goal is not to suppress natural instincts but to manage and channel them safely.
How K9s Place Helps:
- We perform behavioral assessments to identify genetic traits.
- Our private sessions focus on consistent rules, boundaries, and positive outlets for protective instincts.
- We teach owners strategies to safely navigate interactions with strangers, other dogs, and new environments.
Experiences Shape Defensive and Reactive Behaviors
Learned aggression develops over time in response to experiences. For example, a dog may growl or snap after being startled or bullied, and repeated experiences can reinforce these behaviors. Common signs of learned aggression include:
- Barking or lunging when confronted with specific triggers
- Defensive behaviors after negative experiences
- Escalation in situations where the dog has previously felt threatened
Addressing learned aggression requires behavior modification, consistency, and proper reinforcement. By redirecting triggers and providing structured exposure, dogs can unlearn these responses and regain confidence.
How K9s Place Helps:
- We identify the triggers that reinforce learned aggression.
- Our trainers use blended reinforcement techniques to teach alternative responses.
- We guide owners in applying training consistently at home to prevent setbacks.
Safe, Effective Techniques for Redirecting Aggressive Behavior
Both genetic and learned aggression require careful management to ensure safety and improve behavior. Some strategies include:
- Controlled exposure
- Gradually introducing your dog to stimuli in a safe environment helps reduce reactivity and stress.
- Consistent routines and boundaries
- Clear rules and predictable routines give dogs a sense of security and reduce uncertainty-driven aggression.
- Redirecting triggers
- Teaching your dog alternative behaviors when encountering a trigger helps prevent escalation and reinforces positive responses.
- Professional supervision
- Aggression training can be risky without proper guidance. Working with trained professionals ensures safety for both dogs and owners.

A Testimonial From Our Happy Client: “My Jack Russell Luna was aggressive, we had to cage her when family would come over, our walks consisted of Luna walking me down the road, lunging at others. Simple walks became mentally exhausting. K9s took Luna for a 3 week board and train for aggressive dogs and the difference is night and day. We can now take Luna to Petsmart so she can pick out her own toys, family and tutors can come over without Luna being aggressive. When we take walks and pass other walkers/bikers or pet owners, Luna lays politely on the ground for them to pass.” – Tawney Kindler
